The Indigenous Cadigal people occupied the cape and surrounding shoreline for a long time. After some time, The Rocks grew from an open-air gaol to an energetic village. Its rich history-composed of many tales of rough gangs and ‘shanghaied' sailors, can still be outlined through the remaining buildings from the last two hundred years.

Today these were renovated to an assortment of businesses such as one-of-a-kind shops, specialty restaurants, and art galleries that presents new as well as established artists. The Rocks is a distinctive Australian quarter, an exciting place where you can take a tour in the Cadman's Cottage, eat in fine restaurants situated in some of the historical buildings in Sydney, or check out boutiques and galleries in the very place where Australia's European settlement started. It's a small community, which represents a long and vibrant past and can be enjoyed by people in a similarly fascinating present.

With a short tale in every corner, The Rocks will interest and amaze you at the same time. Get ready to take pleasure in an adventure along its narrow streets, walk along cobblestone streets and take a tour on its ancient sandstone steps. So come and visit The Rocks anytime. Take leisurely walks, shop ‘til you drop, dine with family or grab some drinks with friends and enjoy every corner of this unique place. Visit our website or call us for any inquiries.   Collapse

Heart of Sydney, home to the oldest streets and pubs, roots for Sydney Harbour bridge, best view of Opera House.
I love this place - for festivals and markets, Sydney Theatre and Dance Company, artworks in the streets.. and a special feeling of being in Sydney.

Building connections through group singing.

The Rocks Choir is a community initiative open to residents and workers in The Rocks and Millers Point. The choir meets every Monday evening at the historic Merchant's House on George Street where the group enjoy the high ceiling acoustics of the majestic first floor drawing room!
The choir is working on a broad range of repertoire from African, gypsy and gospel songs through to a four part arrangement of the Bee Gees' Tragedy.
The sessions are relaxed and great fun and run from 6 pm to 7.30 pm. You don't have to be 'able to sing' to join in. This is a non-audition choir where the only requirement is enthusiasm and the desire to make some noise!
The Rocks Choir is:
* making singing accessible
* connecting people
* a great vocal workout
* the best way to spend a Monday night
For any choir enquiries please contact choir organiser Chris Murphy on 0437 692 402 or at chris.murphy@shfa.nsw.gov.au.   Collapse
