Australia’s biggest community center is the Addison Road Center (ARC). Our story is being told by the Center’s full name- the Addison Road Center for Culture, Arts Environment and Community. Formerly an Army barracks, the Center developed into the first, longest-surviving and largest community center of Australia. From 1976, ARC has managed to develop a degree of sustainable economy sufficient to supply affordable and accessible spaces for disadvantaged groups, community organizations, cultural associations and local artists. With the State Government of NSW, ARC entered a lease of 50 years in 2003.

The Center today has developed into arts, culture and environment hub in the interior west area, having community organizations counting to 22, community theaters, art galleries, park, organic gardens and radio station. There is varied range of services offered by our members, attracting more than 200,000 visitors each year. The Center also hosts several festivals like the Film Festival of Marrickville, NAIDOC week, events of social awareness and multicultural celebrations.

The organizational structure of ARC is composed of the board of directors voted by the present member organizations during the AGM. There is a committee on culture as well, which is comprised of the center’s volunteers who are working with the officer of the Indigenous Project of ARC and worker on Cultural Development to plan and supervise the development of culture and arts at the center. Assistance is provided by ARC to its members by means of support and work for indigenous and cultural development, community networking and promotion of the center’s services, news circulation through a website and regular newsletter and services on general maintenance.

The Addison Road Centre (ARC) is Australia's largest community centre. The full name of the Centre tells our story - the Addison Road Centre for Arts, Culture, Community and Environment.

Today, the Centre has become a hub for culture, arts and the environment in the Sydney Inner West Area, with its 22 community organisations, art galleries, community theatres, radio station, park and organic gardens. Our members offer a diverse range of services that attract over 200,000 visitors per year and the Centre hosts many festivals such as the Marrickville Film Festival, NAIDOC week, multicultural celebrations and social awareness events.
