Nowadays, you get to see the grace and poise and power of ballroom dancers on TV, whether it’s dancing with the stars or even the annual ballroom competitions. Wouldn’t it be nice to turn back time and go to an era where ballroom dancing was still accessible by normal people, people like us who are not professionally inclined to do it every day. Good thing Arthur Murray Dancing School and Social Clubs are still open after 100 years of providing lessons from novices to professionals.

Since being established by Arthur Murray in 1912, it has spread throughout the continents, from the Americas down to Australia. It just went algal bloom when he started to use mail to spread the news and market the studio, talented and innovative. In Australia, since 1963 with Bondi as the first site, it has spread throughout the map.

Lessons here range from the classic ballroom staples, like the flirty salsa, cheeky cha cha, jazzy foxtrot and passionate tango. The elegant waltz and the sensual rumba are also on the list, not to mention the lively swing. When enrolled, you will be subjected to 3 lessons; the private lessons go first, then the group dances, then lastly the social events.

But the Bridal Dance is another story; it’s a defining moment that has to be empty with toe stepping and bloody toes. Good thing they also give classes for wedding dances. And if you’re lucky enough to enroll 6 months before the big day, you can learn a lot and perfect each twirl, each sway, and each step.

Just go to their site and look for the nearest studio to you and let’s get dancing!

The history of the Arthur Murray Franchised Dance Studios began in 1912 with a man named Arthur Murray, an American symbol of entrepreneurial success and social dancing.

Murray was among the first to use advertising techniques considered cutting edge at the time. His concept of selling dance lessons by mail, one step at a time, took the use of direct mail to a new level. Murray's creative use of print advertising attracted national attention, as did his business acumen.

Arthur Murray is well established in Australia since the opening of our first studio in 1963 in Bondi.
