Fairlight beach is in Sydney harbour, about 1 or 2km walk from Manly Wharf. It's facing Sydney harbour so there is no surf with calm waters. The beach has sand largely made up of shell grit (largely missing from the beaches on either side), and a small tidal swimming pool.
The water stays shallow for some distance, then there is a huge dropoff, forming a wall. Many large schools of fish can be found at this wall. Especially look down a few metres under ledges. The shallow areas of Fairlight have nice fish too.
