We are a restaurant that prepares and serves food from the diverse paradise of Goa. Goa is the smallest state in India, located on the west coast about 600 kilometres south of Bombay (Mumbai) that like every other state in India – is different. The Portuguese left a huge stamp on the Goans, and apart from the architecture and surnames, they left their mark on the cuisine. Goa-doodle-do serves authentic Goan cuisine that excites the taste buds of any food lover who is out to experience a truly unique style of dining in Brisbane. The Goan cuisine combines the best of west coast Indian spices and ingredients, with Portuguese flavours. We have taken a colourful variety of classic Goan dishes and combined them with a selection of ‘passed down’ family recipes to create our own exotic menu.
The curries are mostly coconut based, and coriander is an ingredient that is used so frequently that it should really be stored in the chef’s back pocket. Seafood is big in Goa, and the people’s staple is a coconut based fish or prawn curry with freshly cooked, hot rice. The marrying of the Portuguese Mediterranean culture with the Indian one is what separates Goan food distinctively from the rest of India. Take a look at our menu and see if you can identify the Portuguese origin.
We are more than the food we serve. We believe that we are responsible for more than just ourselves and we would like to contribute to a better and brighter future. 5% of all our takings will go toward helping children around the world build themselves a future that they can in turn build on. From the first month we open, we will be sponsoring a new child every month through a variety of different charities, while aiming to support an orphanage in Goa entirely within the next couple of years. Our patrons are such a huge part of this movement, so ask us how we’ve been doing and how you can get involved more actively.
