Eric Wong’s once pokey 10-seater Chinese soup kitchen has blossomed into a golden empire of delicious oriental delicacies boasting two large 600-seater restaurants. These super-sized, super busy dining rooms capture the in-your-face activity you might expect to find at a bustling Chinese fishing port. Unlike ships passing silently in the night, the Golden Century’s boisterous patronage sail noisily in and out of the restaurant nonstop until its close at 4am. Although they take reservations, if you aren’t lucky enough to have one, expect to wait and wait and wait, comforted only by the knowledge that a high turnover rate is unashamedly enforced during peak periods.

Giant tanks crawl with as many live mud crabs, pippies, lobsters and silver perches as your eyes can fathom. The ambience is loud but stimulating and the decor seems to take early James Bond movies as its inspiration. Excite the taste buds with a wide choice of meat, seafood, vegetarian, and poultry dishes. For a glorious late night pick-me-up, try the fish with ginger and shallots, the pippies with XO, the crab in garlic sauce or prawns cooked to a delicate pink served with a vinegary dipping sauce. For more extravagant diners, the lobster sashimi is exalted among regulars, including international heads of state and even the odd Bond girl.
