Since opening in 1995 the museum has been at the centre of the continuing life story of the pioneering Australia Mary MacKillop - Australia's saint , and the co founder of the order of the Sisters of St Joseph Fr Julian Tenison Woods. The museum seeks to interpret the significant historical events surrounding the challenges and hardships of ministry life work in colonial Australia, and the contemporary events celebrating Mary MacKillop's legacy today.

The museums mission is to present and explore the story of Mary MacKillop for the people of NSW and beyond.

A visit to the museum can include touch screen interactive, audio and film presentations and public events. Pre booked guided tours are available daily.

Collections

The major collection includes articles belonging to Mary MacKillop, and family members and friends, personal items belonging to Fr Julian Tenison Woods, and the Sisters of St Joseph.

The secondary collecting categories include objects and artworks collected through outreaching to rural communities throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Liturgical objects and relics associated with the Catholic faith which include; Religious arts i.e vestment garments, and reliquary objects containing Catholic saints.
