Craving for an Irish tea or you just want to try it on for size? The Tea Cosy will satisfy that. Just at the George Street, tucked at the Rocks, just behind the Irish Design Shop, Tea Cosy offers its patrons a taste of the Irish lore. The place was once named as Tara tea Room. Alongside the Irish Devonshire tea and imported coffee are freshly baked scones that are always, all day, up for grabs, because scones are the only thing they serve here. The cute tea cosies are all handmade. The experience starts as you enter their 180 year old ancestral building.
Although the only food they serve here are scones, they are able to make something new about it by pairing it with authentic twice thickened cream and jam. And the jam alone is already a selection, from raspberry to triple berry, the oldie but goodie strawberry, or maybe a blend of lime, pawpaw (papaya), and passion fruit. If you’re really craving for it, then you could dig thru a basket of treats, filled with specialty and plain flavored scones. Their recommendation though is paring scones with a hot cup of Barry’s Irish tea.
Booking the place is good for an intimate tea party of at least 8 or more which is held upstairs.
After you get your fill, you can look at it their gift shop. You could buy a dozen of freshly made scones to go even a gold blend, Irish blend or a classic blend of Barry’s Irish Tea. And with luck, you can grab one of those cute tea cosies.
But hurry, they are only open from Friday to Sunday.
