We all have been to that fancy place just to get breakfast, sometimes, it will begin to dawn on us that maybe it’s time to hold back some of that fanciness. Wouldn’t it be great to dine in a place quaint yet satisfying? A place where you can get a simple high quality coffee to go with your choice of breakfast? Well, why not start your day with The Wedge Espresso?

Owned by a coffee guy from Le Monde, Toby Wilson created an effortless menu for the Wedge Espresso. The place is lined with huge windows that are witnessing the hustle and bustle of Glebe Point Road. The interior is basically made up of high rise benches paired with seats of stools. The look is finished with a touch of sweetness brought out by the polished floors of concrete, cushions of sackcloth on the milk crates. Greenery is also visible as pots of herbs adorn the interior.

The menu is filled with a handful of breakfast items and sandwiches. No bacon or eggs, not even the over used calamari seasoned with pepper and salt, not even Caesar salad topped with chicken. The Luxe Bakery of Newtown provides their breads, which are freshly toasted and paired with fresh produce, like for example bruschetta, or even be served sandwiching a chicken poached in lemon and sage or beef along an onion jam with aged cheddar. But if you’re in a hurry for a fill, you could just grab toasted bread like banana bread with a spread of some maple butter or maybe a sourdough, sliced and toasted, paired with a preserve.

Breakfasts should be easy, not complicated.

This place is totally excellent! The coffee is the highest quality you can get in Sydney, the food, although limited, is creative, delicious and made with love and the place looks excellent.

It’s a great spot with big windows that open onto the street, high benches and stool seating with sweet touches like sackcloth cushions on milk crates, polished concrete floors and potted herbs.

Owner Toby Wilson, ex coffee man at Le Monde, has a simple formula going with the food at The Wedge. A handful of breakfast items and another handful of sandwiches; no eggs & bacon, no ubiquitous salt & pepper calamari or chicken caesar salad. Head to any cafe on the strip for those. Bread from Newtowns Luxe Bakery is toasted and topped with fresh ingredients (bruschetta/tartine style) or sliced fresh and sandwiched with the likes of lemon & sage poached chicken or beef with onion jam & vintage cheddar. There’s bircher muesli, toasted banana bread with maple butter or just toasted sourdough with preserves and regular spreads.
